Our National Sales Manager John Moran attended the last day of PHEX Chelsea on 16 November 2017. The show was as busy as ever with all the major manufacturers there to showcase their products. In our December 2017 blog, John outlines his time at the show and offers insight into why the Chelsea PHEX is such a popular event for the industry.
“Walking around PHEX, I saw lots of boiler manufacturers and other allied heating and plumbing product companies showcasing their products, technology and brochures, with a good number of visitors enjoying the different opportunities each stand had to offer. The best stands seemed to be those that allowed a hands-on approach. Where installers could physically touch and get to grips with the open boilers or feel the weight and quality of pipes and connectors, or could see a proper demonstration of what was on offer, those stands seemed to have the best engagement with their visitors.
“It was also good to meet up with colleagues from the past and share our own thoughts and ideas about what’s happening in the industry at the moment, what the challenges are and where the industry is heading. Most can see Brexit on the horizon and as many of the boilers available in the UK are made across the EU, the conversation’s theme generally seemed to be one of confidence that the trade deals that are struck will be favourable to all concerned. At the moment there is little information available but there was an optimism that common sense will prevail and it will be business as usual post-March 2019.
“Overall, the show seemed well-attended with plenty of manufacturers exhibiting and people keen to get around them all. The merchant section was upstairs and people were heading up there for refreshments and a place to talk without the bustle and constant buzz of conversation in the main hall.
“I was struck by the fact that although the industry is technology-led, there was little new on offer, which I find surprising when I consider the R&D I know is going on at our factory in Italy, and I am sure this is the case for other manufacturers as well. Our state-of-the-art production facility in Verona, Italy, has made us a global leader, with Sime products for sale in over 60 countries worldwide!
“Exhibitions and events remain a vital element of the marketing mix, bringing you face-to-face with customers and they allow you to hear in person what people really think about your products and service. We will continue to run our merchant events during 2018 because we are finding that it’s a vital means of establishing the Sime brand in the minds of the installers we wish to reach. All our events are published on our app and you can also sign up for our monthly eshot here, to make sure you stay abreast of all our news and latest events. We are also on Facebook and Twitter, so there are plenty of ways of staying in touch with Sime. With regards to PHEX, it was certainly worth a visit and we will be carefully considering attending in 2018.”
